Why this course matters

With the expiry of Unit Standard 25459 – Provide First Aid for Young Children, ECE and home-based educators will now need to complete US 6402 – Provide Basic Life Support and US 6401 – Provide First Aid at their next renewal to meet licensing requirements.

From 1 January 2026, if you don’t already hold a first aid qualification, these new unit standards will be mandatory for certification.

This new course bridges the gap, combining everything educators need to stay compliant while focusing on the unique needs of young children.

Caring for Kids — First Aid for Those Who Care Most

At LifeCare, we understand that caring for tamariki comes with great responsibility. Our new Caring for Kids First Aid course is designed specifically for those who look after infants and young children — whether you work in an early childhood centre, provide home-based care, or are a parent, grandparent, or caregiver wanting to feel more confident in emergencies.

LifeCare is an NZQA Category 1 accredited provider, so you can trust that your training meets the latest Ministry of Education requirements for early childhood educators.

This hands-on, 4-hour course focuses on child and baby-specific scenarios, teaching essential first aid skills in a practical, engaging way. You’ll learn how to respond to choking, breathing issues, bleeding, and other common emergencies — all while keeping calm and acting quickly when it matters most.

For convenience, our public courses are run on Saturdays, reducing disruption to learning environments and making it easier for busy educators and caregivers to attend. Larger centres can also arrange on-site training for their teams.

Empower yourself — and your staff — with the knowledge and confidence to protect the smallest members of our community. Because when it comes to tamariki, every second counts.

Testimonials

“I would like to pass on staff feedback from last night’s First Aid training here at Raglan Area School. Our staff were inspired and encouraged by the professionalism and passion your trainers brought and shared at our PLD last night.

We look forward to working with you again in the future. Q”

Quenten Browne – Deputy Principal at Raglan Area School

“The team actually really enjoyed their morning and they said Lynette was fantastic. She was very informative and great to work with, so thank you. You guys will definitely be on the top of our list 😊.

Tania Savage at Waipa Plumbing

“Brooke and Lynette are lovely to work with, and great ambassadors of Life Care Consultants.  Course one went well today, and we do it again tomorrow with the other Gateway class. Many thanks from a very happy client.”

Rosie Swinkels at Mt Maunganui College

“Our staff found the Life Care first aid training to be enjoyable and thorough. The initial online work was a very effective way to begin the training. We appreciated the straight forward, practical delivery. Time passed quickly because we were learning a lot of information through activities that were engaging and interesting. The trainer was professional and friendly. He facilitated a very beneficial day for us all. Ultimately, we felt a lot more equipped to deal with first aid situations. We will definitely use Life Care again for future first aid training.”

Clifford Wicks at Otari School, Wellington

“The course was upbeat and relevant. All of my students walked out of the course feeling confident in their ability. They were not afraid to ask questions and … got some great credits too. I found it super easy to deal with Life Consultants as a busy teacher – all of the pre course information was easy to understand and run my students through. The facilitator was wonderful as well – very upbeat and made a relationship with every single student – was super cool to see!”

Charlie Harrison at Aquinas College Tauranga

“When you book a Health and Safety course for your Gateway students you are aiming for the students to connect with the tutor. You want them to feel they can ask questions and gain as much knowledge as possible because you want each and every one of them to be safe out in the workplace. Alan listened to my students and created a great learning environment , which I could tell by the way the students were working each time I popped in. [x 3 visits each day ] Thanks, I will rebook with this company because of you and the effort you made at Trident last week.”

Karen Benge at Trident High School Bay of Plenty

“Everything runs smoothly – from making the booking to the completion of the course and reporting of results – nothing is too much trouble and students enjoy the courses.”

Raewyn Moore at Massey High School, Auckland

“Great organisation – easy to enrol students. Course content was excellent and well delivered. I particularly appreciate the Health & Safety training combinations (packages) available for delivery in schools – this is a great option to have.’”

Sonya Fitzgerald at Villa Maria College, Christchurch
