A Commitment to Safer Workplaces: LifeCare at the Health & Safety Leaders’ Summit 2025

Last week, LifeCare was proud to sponsor and participate in the Health and Safety Leaders’ Summit, held on March 26-27, at the Due Drop Events Centre in Auckland. This event brought together health and safety professionals from across New Zealand to explore the evolving landscape of workplace safety and leadership.

A Look at the Two-Day Summit

The 2025 Summit marked ten years since the Health and Safety at Work Act was introduced. With ongoing legislative reviews and structural changes within WorkSafe New Zealand, the event provided valuable insights into compliance, best practices, and innovative approaches to safety management.

Day 1: The Future of Safety Leadership
The first day focused on the dynamic nature of compliance and the shifting legislative and regulatory landscape. With safety laws under review, discussions explored how businesses can stay ahead by fostering strong safety leadership and governance. The importance of worker participation was also emphasised, highlighting how engaging employees in safety initiatives leads to better outcomes. Another key discussion point was the need to rethink traditional safety measurement methods to ensure they remain effective in modern workplaces.

Day 2: Practical Strategies for Workplace Safety
The second day was all about practical applications. Industry experts shared real-world examples of successfully implementing innovative safety strategies. Psychosocial risk management took center stage, reinforcing the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing as part of workplace safety. Sessions on Human and Organisational Performance (HOP) and Learning Teams demonstrated how collaborative approaches can help businesses identify and mitigate risks more effectively. Decluttering safety processes and streamlining procedures were also explored to improve efficiency and engagement.

Looking Ahead

A key takeaway from the summit was the shift from safety management to safety leadership. While management focuses on compliance and daily operations, leadership is about fostering a culture where safety is embedded in everything an organisation does. Inspiring and motivating teams toward shared safety goals is crucial to long-term success.
