Why this course matters
With the expiry of Unit Standard 25459 – Provide First Aid for Young Children, ECE and home-based educators will now need to complete US 6402 – Provide Basic Life Support and US 6401 – Provide First Aid at their next renewal to meet licensing requirements.
From 1 January 2026, if you don’t already hold a first aid qualification, these new unit standards will be mandatory for certification.
This new course bridges the gap, combining everything educators need to stay compliant while focusing on the unique needs of young children.

Caring for Kids — First Aid for Those Who Care Most
At LifeCare, we understand that caring for tamariki comes with great responsibility. Our new Caring for Kids First Aid course is designed specifically for those who look after infants and young children — whether you work in an early childhood centre, provide home-based care, or are a parent, grandparent, or caregiver wanting to feel more confident in emergencies.
LifeCare is an NZQA Category 1 accredited provider, so you can trust that your training meets the latest Ministry of Education requirements for early childhood educators.
This hands-on, 4-hour course focuses on child and baby-specific scenarios, teaching essential first aid skills in a practical, engaging way. You’ll learn how to respond to choking, breathing issues, bleeding, and other common emergencies — all while keeping calm and acting quickly when it matters most.
For convenience, our public courses are run on Saturdays, reducing disruption to learning environments and making it easier for busy educators and caregivers to attend. Larger centres can also arrange on-site training for their teams.
Empower yourself — and your staff — with the knowledge and confidence to protect the smallest members of our community. Because when it comes to tamariki, every second counts.
